One-day workshop on “IP Awareness and Patent Filing”

On 26th February, 2026 a one-day workshop on “IP Awareness and Patent Filing” was organized under the aegis of the IIC by the Department of Commerce and the Research & Development Cell of Hindu Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Jind. The program was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Poonam Mor.
At the outset, the Principal shared her views on the relevance of such workshops in the modern era. The primary objective of the program was to provide students with awareness about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and practical knowledge regarding patent filing.
The workshop was coordinated and conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Rekha Saini, Convener of the Department of Commerce, and Dr. Sushma Garg, Convener of the R&D Cell.
In the first session, the keynote speaker, Mrs. Kirti Bansal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, delivered a detailed lecture on “Basic Awareness about IPR.” She explained the concept of Intellectual Property Rights and elaborated on its various types, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and designs. She also highlighted their significance in the fields of education and industry.
In the second session, Mrs. Pooja Rani, Assistant Professor from the Department of Physics, delivered a presentation on the “Process of Filing a Patent.” She provided comprehensive information about the complete patent filing procedure, required documentation, online application process, and stages of approval. She encouraged students to pursue innovation and research and emphasized the importance of securing original ideas through patents.
Approximately 50 undergraduate and postgraduate students of the college participated in the workshop. Dr. Upasana, Head of the Department of Commerce, motivated the students by stating that Intellectual Property Rights are essential for innovation and research in today’s era and encouraged them to gain knowledge in this field to contribute creatively in the future.
In her concluding remarks, Principal Dr. Poonam Mor congratulated the Department of Commerce, the R&D Cell, and all members of the IIC for the successful organization of the workshop. She emphasized that such programs foster the spirit of innovation and research and inspired students to refine their original ideas and actively participate in research activities.
The workshop was successfully organized with the special contributions of Assistant Professors Kumari Jyotika, Kumari Vanshika Jindal, and Mrs. Poonam Bhardwaj from the Department of Commerce.
